Kiss Everlasting Nails – Taking Them Off

So here is my video all about how I took off my Kiss Everlasting Nails!

It wasn’t terribly hard to get them off. Obviously I was only doing a few nails though. Here is what was left of the ones that came off at the office.

nails3 I think they came off so quickly (3 days) because I kept finding myself playing with them. I think it was all the glue I got on my fingers that had stuck around the edges of the nails and so I was always trying to get it off. If I’d just left them alone I suspect they’d have lasted longer.

They did look kind of pretty though! But I am DYING to put some cute colours on my nails now! nails

Kiss - Everlasting French Manicure Kit

I was sent some Kiss nail products to play with! Ever so exciting! The first thing I decided to try out was the Everlasting French Manicure kit!

Here is my video showing you my first impressions on opening the box and attempting to put them on!

It wasn't too tricky or time consuming to get them on but I think there is certainly an art to getting the right amount of glur in the right places. It took me a couple of hours to liberate the skin behind my nails from the backs of my nails! It's defniitely something you would do the night before a special occassion rather than on the day!

I wasn't too sure at first. They made my fingers feel really fat and weird. I got some really nice comlpiments on how pretty they looked though. I think it was just matter of getitng used to them.

You can get your Kiss Nails here.

My next instalment will be on how long they lasted and how I got them off.

Herbalife Does Skin Care! Nourifusion

There is a lovely blogger on the block that I'm yet to talk to you about! You can check out the divine MizzWorhty's Stuff here. It was through a competition she ran on her blog that I got my greedy, little hands on a set of Nourifusion skin care!

This is by the company Herbalife. Do you remember them? They do a sort of diet through vitamins program and now they're branched out into skin care! Exciting! I was sent a cleanser, toner and moisturiser set. I do love having a set!

The packaging is quite nice. Nothing too offensive and it would look nice in most any bathroom. I was a bit scared of the cleanser. It's a gel cleanser and I'm completely devoted to oil based cleansers! I must say that it was surprisingly gentle. My skin can be fairly indecisive but is generally combination. If I use foaming, gel or regular style cleansers on it I'm always left feeling dry and tight. It will end up just making me break out in horrid spots and then my skin flakes off like a snake. Charming. But this was very gentle. It hasn't made my skin play up at all. Yay! It doesn't taste very nice but I suspect if you read the bottle they'll probably say it's not meant to be consumed! I use it in the shower so I tend to get a little over excited. Oops. The pump broke on my bottle after a few uses. Drats! I was enjoying the pump! It gave out just enough product. It just stopped working. I now keep the bottle in my shower without a lid on it and pour it straight into my hands.

I have the same issues with toners. They often sting and leave my skin in a fairly unhappy place. I'm a firm believer in the right kind of toner though and my fave is the Liz Earle Skin Tonic. The Nourifusion one has now become regular after my LE ran out and so far so good! It does everything a toner is supposed to do!

The moisturiser is an SPF 15 and it's in a tube. I like tubes. Pots are just asking for bacteria and all kinds of drama. As usual I kept using a serum, an eye cream and I put my products on with cotton pads as well. It's a rich feeling formulation that doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy or over loaded. It creates a nice base for makeup as well. The leaflet inside the packaging says it contains vitamins A, C and E. All good things for your skin! I can't notice much "difference" in my skin but it's behaving itself, feels clean and is generally nice.

This is a really nice no nonsense range that does what it says on the tine. A kit will set you back around £47 if you buy it online. That averages out to be around £16 per product which isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. I'm not sure it's exciting enough for me to run out and buy it again myself but I'm really happy with using it and it's keeping my skin in nice condition.

FOTD Using Naked Pigments

I’ve been using my Naked pigment stack pretty much every day. Like I said, I’m obsessed with using it till I learn to like it more!

We were off to see Inception last night so I thought I’d tape the look I was putting together for you. I just wanted something light and summery but cute all the same seeing as it was technically “date night”.

Here is what I came up with and I hope you like it.

Look Good... Feel Better

There are times, despite the theme of recent posts, that the giant cosmetic companies use their powers for good instead of evil. In the case of Look Good... Feel Better, this is one of them.

I'm lucky enough to be part of the LGFB team! It's one of the most rewarding things I'm involved in. They're an organisation that goes around to hospitals all over the UK and show women undergoing treatment for  cancer how to look pretty. There is so much power that comes from feeling confident about how you look and the gruelling treatment these women are undergoing in order to survive can really knock that confidence out of them. A simple workshop going over a few tricks and tips can really change their outlook and give them that feeling of empowerment they need to make it through their death defying battle.

The groups are usually around a dozen ladies and they get together around a table and we go through some skin care routine tips and a twelve step program for putting on your daily face. One of the main points of focus is how to define their eyes if their eyelashes have become sparse and putting on some eyebrows if the chemo has taken it's toll on those as well.

The beginning of the workshop can be a little awkward seeing as no one really knows each other very well. By the end of the session everyone is so relaxed and so surprised at how lovely they look that they really do leave with a lot more spring in their step. Being the giant softie that I am I just wanted to go around the table giving everyone giant hugs earlier this week.

I was particularly touched by one lady that was wheeled in directly from a treatment. She couldn't use her left arm so soon afterwards so one of the team put all her products directly on her and talked her through the steps. She couldn't stop looking at herself in the mirror! It was then that she informed us that she'd never even worn eyeshadow before! For someone that had been struggling to keep her head up at the beginning of the session, she left with a smile that would stop traffic!

Another lady I spoke to thought the session was terrific for more than just the makeup tips. She had not long ago had her surgery and was about to embark on her treatment. The group provided her with a relaxed environment where people exchanged stories of their treatment experiences and she really felt like she was more able to take it on now that she wasn't so scared about what it might be like.

The amazingly generous part of all this is that the ladies are all given a seriously big bag full of all the products they will need to keep their skin in great condition and to create all the makeup looks we show them during the session. Some of the biggest brands in the business donate all the products completely free of charge. I'm talking about brands like Revlon, Max Factor, Simple, Elizabeth Arden, Clinique, Clarins and Bobbi Brown. That's not even the complete list either!

This is such a positive way for women to feel better while they're trying to beat cancer. LGFB call it Pampering Therapy!

If you're a beauty therapist that would like to help, a cosmetics company that would like to get involved, someone undergoing treatment that would like to take part or would just like to know how you can help the Look Good... Feel Better organisation then you can go to their website here.

Kisses,
Rebecca xxx

PS: Cosmetic Companies - we need someone to start donating small brush sets! If you can, please get in touch with LGFB if you could send some over! It would make a HUGE difference!!! :) xxx

MAC/Rodarte - The Blogger Petition

I'm really going to try keep these posts to a minimum now. I think it's a very important issue to keep close to our hearts but I'm aware I need to resume regular programming at some stage. Please don't think that I'm just letting this issue fall back into the obscurity that it's just come from (in my world anyway) and that I was on the bandwagon for five minutes.

A few bloggers have taken the time to put together a wonderful petition to try and get MAC to do more than it's committed to doing as it stands right now. It would be great if you could sign it here.

You can also find a list of the companies operating factories in the area here.

Finally, here is the link to Amnesty International's information on the situation.

If you would like to know more about the active ways the UK blogging community is trying to help out please send me an email and I'll let you know what we're up to.

None of the actual MAC/Rodarte collection appealed to me but I'm going to be making a donation equitvalent to what I might have spent to this charity which we've talked about in the petition.

NOTD - Sleek Barbie

I was at the Superdrug event yesterday and I had a quickie manicure while I was there. I'm loving this colour and, apparently, it was one of the most popular colours of the day! Cute, eh?

MAC Rodarte Update

These are two of my most beloved posessions. I feel pretty guilty about them right now.

Www.sofarsochic.co.uk made a brilliant point this morning. MAC have said that they're going to change the names of the collection and donate $100,000 to a non profit organisation that has a proven track record in helping out the Juarez situation. Really? That's not in £ it's in US$. Beauty Mouth informed us that's about £15,000 less than just one of MAC's UK based stores turns over in just one week. Is that all these women are worth? Is that how sorry MAC feels about exploiting them for commercial gain?

I'm so proud of the blogosphere for making this an issue but I'm pretty disappointed in MAC. I can say with a lot of certainty that I'll be cutting up my pro card and not darkening their doorstep again. Don't even get me started on Rodarte's non response. It's not even worth wasting blog space on.

Watch this space for a little info on how you can help the women in Juarez for yourself. I'm very aware that the money I won't be spending in MAC anymore is miniscule but I'm a firm believer in making greater global change through individual actions and intent. Every single individual choice we make every day contributes to our world as a whole. Don't ever feel like you can't make a difference on your own.

MAC Rodarte Collection – Juarez Killings

rodarte I can honestly say without any doubt in my mind that I never imagined myself writing this post. When I started this blog it was a way for me to talk about pretty things, makeup, how to keep skin beautiful and all that fluffy, girly stuff. How did I end up sitting down and researching such a horrific subject and putting it on this pretty blog?
Surely the people in product development at MAC were asking themselves the same question when they were coming up with their latest collaboration with design company Rodarte? How did they come up with the blood red blushes with names like Ghost Town ad Factory and not stop to think “This feels like it could come across in bad taste.”?
To give you a quick run down on a situation many of you already know something about, Rodarte sent a collection down the runway for A/W 2010 that was inspired by their visit to Mexican boarder city, Juarez. It’s a town that is overcome with tragedy and injustice. Wikipedia calls it a “phenomenon”. That frightens me. How can the killing of thousands of women in one city be called a “phenomenon”?  It’s a city run by drug wars and violence. There are reports of over 5,000 women being murdered in 2010 alone. More often than not these women go missing on their way to and from their factory jobs. They’re usually found days later abandoned with signs of sexual violence, torture, disfigurement and more. It makes my blood run cold and my stomach churn.
What makes me feel even more despondent about the situation of these women is that in August 2006 the Mexican government dropped it’s investigation into the murders stating that no federal laws had been broken during these killings. I simply don’t understand that. I cannot wrap my head around how these murders don’t break the simplest, most fundamental human rights.
Having read all that, would you buy a blood red blush called Quinceanera (a Latin American celebration of a girl’s coming of age when she’s 15)? For me, the worst part of this collection is that it’s romanticising such a horrific situation. It was never designed to raise awareness of injustice towards women. MAC have, over the last couple days, reacted to the outrage by apologising and stating that they’ll donate “a portion” of proceeds to charities fighting against the murders. Ehm, a portion? MAC, you’re part of a multi billion dollar corporate machine. I don’t think you’re going to miss the money from a few blushers and nail varnishes. Either donate the whole lot or show us that you’re going to do something significant about it! And, maybe, take the products off the shelves while you’re at it!!!!???
I’m not the only blogger on the block that’s pretty upset by all of this. Take a look here at some of my fellow bloggers that have something to say about it.

Is There Life on Your Planet???

I just wanted to do a little bit of a chatty post as I feel like I've neglected my blog lately. Have you noticed? Have you been wondering where I am and what's going on? I thought I'd just give you a little update.

For those of you that don't know, I've started a regular temp job while I'm trying to sell my house. I've had to put my makeup work on hold a bit till that's all sorted out and I can devote all the time that it deserves. Some of you might think that's weird. How much time can being a makeup artist take? It's not so much the actual job itself. It's the admin, the marketing and, for me, the travelling. I don't drive and I live about two hours away from anywhere. So, I am still doing makeup jobs if it's the right person, in the right location and at the right times but for now I'm doing it less.

So what am I doing with your days? I'm working for a recruitment agency in Soho in London. I have a fair bit of HR experience so this wasn't the greatest leap. I'm loving the location! So many shops I have to avoid! I'm right off of Carnaby Street! Argh! The reason I haven't been blogging my heart out or made any videos since being here is that I've been doing ten and 11 hours a day most days. Add my hour and a half to two hours of transportation time into that and I'm a tired bunny that gets home and crashes. In saying that, I think things are set to ease up a bit soon so hopefully I'll be able to be in your face a little more!!!

The shredding. Ugh. My back was really playing up on me so I had to give the old Shredding a rest. I'm ready to start level two and I'm so keen to get going. I just haven't had time this last couple of weeks. I'm hoping that next week is my week! Obviously my reivews of Shredding will be a bit different others as I haven't been able to do it every single day for 30 days straight. In saying that, I get the feeling it might be a more realistic view of it. I don't know that many people that don't have crazy schedules to be able to do that kind of thing.

My house is nearly finished! Hooray! I've been redecorating it and all sorts for the last two and a bit years and it's finally coming to the very very end so I can put it up for sale! Keep everything corssed it sells quickly so I can move back into town as soon as possible! I can't wait to not have a ridiculous commute anymore!

I'm wanting to get a really informative Shred post up for you this week. I've quite a few emails, etc asking me what it's all about. I hadn't realised I was being so ambiguous! I think I'd like to do it in a video format. What do you think? I've also been getting requests for more videos. I'll see if I can squeeze one in on the weekend for you. Let me know if you have any requests on the subject and that's what I'll do! Otherwise, you know what will happen if I'm left to my own devices!!!

That's about everything I have to update for now. I'll keep you posted on developments, etc and I'm really hoping to be more regular and reliable and informative very very soon!

Engagement Shoot

4778486914_a52c02e691_b

I really enjoy working with David McNeil. He’s a fab photographer and a genuinely lovely person as well. I also love his clients. They’re always so fun and sweet and happy to get really adventurous. Not just with their makeup but also with the entire shoot.

Mark and Jo are just such a couple. They were both so sweet and Jo bears a striking resemblance to Katy Perry. I couldn’t resist doing a super retro eye and a bright lip just to play those features up! Then we went for quite a fun hairstyle. One of those seriously retro rolls on the fringe and a side swept pony tail.

You have to admit that she looks cool as a cucumber considering it was over 30 degrees on Friday!

If only all my jobs were as fun and fabulous as this!

Today's lipstick - Rosy Raisin

I'm loving this kind of colour right now. I particularly like this one as well. For a whole bunch of reasons. It's not drying and doesn't leave me with "old lady lips".

It costs a whole £3.50 from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk. In fact, perusing the website and selection of colours, I really want to do more shopping! They have lovely looking neutral shades and it won't break the bank giving them a whirl. The packaging is very inoffensive. It's just plain black in a squared off style with ELF in White at the top.

Definitely give it a go. If you follow ELF on Twitter or facebook they often do free shopping or great GWP codes.

Shredding Progress - Here comes level 2!

So I've finished level 1! Yay! It only took me loads longer than it should have! Taking a week off in Cornwall wasn't ideal but a little out of my control. I did eat my own body weight in cream tea but at least I did all those lovely long walks wearing my MBT's.

I finished level 1 on Sunday. I have a horrible confession to make. I haven't done it since! I'm hoping I can get to it tomorrow afternoon when I get home from a couple of jobs in the morning. Having had a quick look at it I think it's lower impact than level 2 so I'll have less trouble with my back and knees hopefully. They're not exactly in love with all the jumping up and down. It's a shame because I do enjoy that part!

Meanwhile, I've been wearing my MBT's everywhere! How did I live without them for so long??? I can totally tell they're making a difference! They look like complete remedial footwear but I don't care. They comfy and I can feel them doing what they're supposed to do. My core feels a lot more engaged a lot more often and my tushie is looking particularly perter than usual! Hooray! I can't justify wearing other shoes now! Why would I wear regular footwear when I can wear shoes that make me thinner while I'm going about my daily business??? SOLD!

Hopefully next week will be a lot calmer than this week and I'll be able to shred lots more and keep you updated!

FOTD - More Naked Pigments & iPhone Pics Taken on the Train

I should just have a standard disclaimer at the top of this blog generally apologising for the picture quality and the fact that I keep taking pictures of myself on the train on my way to work!

I used my Naked pigments again today. I hate not liking a product. That's what I'll use every day till I either learn to love it or it runs out. It's like some weird form of self torture.

Here is the stack again. Today I put down the second colour all over the lid with a large brush then took the brown on a damp flat liner brush to line my upper and lower lash lines. I've used the peachy shade at the top to give my cheeks some life and highlight and some random metallic brown lipstick that I've scooped into a jar at some point.

Voilà, an acceptable face for work...

FOTD Using Naked Pigments

Oh, the joy of photos taken on my iPhone whilst on the train! I apologise - to you and my fellow passengers! But I thought you might like to see this FOTD that took hardly any time at all to put on.

I used the top colour as an all over wash then used my Laura Mercier angled eye colour brush to place the brown on the outer corner and the crease. I then took the green colour at the bottom and used my Laura Mercier smudge brush to create a line along the upper and lower lash lines.

After that I put my bareMinerals foundation on and used the second colour in the stack with my small Sigma duo fibre brush for a cheek colour. I'm wearing Kiss You lip gloss from Benefit to give the look a little flash of bright colour.

I picked these pigments up at IMATS in January. I think I might have been carried away by the excitement of the day as I hardly use them and I'm not exactly in love with them. That's why I'm always trying to find ways to use them up like today!

Do you do that with products you don't love or do you just throw them away?

Nars keeps coming to my emotional rescue

Today was one of those days where I just couldn't get out of bed. I don't think I'll ever be one of those people that has time to sit down for breakfast before work. I get so little sleep that I'm always exhausted when it's time to get up.

That's why keeping items like this Nars palette by my bathroom mirror are essential. As you can see it's well loved. I don't think they even sell this one anymore.

The Orgasm cheek colour is always the first thing I'll put on in an effort to look alive again. That will be quickly followed by some night fairy washed all over the lid, some Notorious over the mobile lid, Lulu in the crease and Himalayas at the inner corner to brighten things up a bit.

Finally I'll pop some of the Cannes multiple on my upper cheekbones by my hairline and rub some Dolce Vita lip colour in with my finger. Voilà! Made up face in under 5 minutes with minimal thought. As the name of the palette suggests, this really is Emotional Rescue!!!!

The final thing I love about this palette is that all the shadows are in the original formula. I know they changed it because it's what everyone was asking for and I can understand why but I still miss it! I loved working with the sheer texture of those shadows. They were built for layering as opposed to single layers of product. A few colours over one another could achieve such a beautiful finish that always looked like veils made by fairies as opposed to product overload. For that reason, I'm going to excited every time I use this palette till it runs out!

New Cleanser Love – MAC Cleanse Off

M6GN

(picture is from the MAC website and clicking on it will take you straight there so you can purchase online)

You know I’m all about the oil based cleanser. I have run out of cleanser at my boyfriend’s house so I thought I’d pick this one up for a try. There were a couple of reasons for this. I couldn’t find the new Soap and Glory cleanser still and I was near the MAC Pro store. There is also the fact that I have a MAC Pro Card so I get a decent discount so it seemed like a good deal. I also have to admit to a bit of a MAC fascination. I’ve never used a lot of it but I’ve been putting a bit in my kit lately. I’m finding it fairly reliable without having to spend loads. When you utter the word “MAC” in makeup circles it always gets an opinion and a debate and a heated conversation. Yet another reason for my current fascination.

So I picked this cleanser up to try. For the price, I think it’s a pretty great oil based cleanser. It has a list of ingredients that for the most part I don’t understand but it does specifically point out that it’s mineral oil free. Towards the end of the ingredients list it starts listing nice things like jojoba, etc. Yummy!

It doesn’t have a super thick consistency like some more expensive oil based cleansers I’ve tried. In saying that, I only need one pump per use. I like to use a pump to remove my makeup, cleanse, pat dry and repeat for a deep cleanse. The lighter texture makes it really easy to rinse off so the double cleanse is totally doable. I think it also means it would be perfect for people with oilier skin! I’m a firm believer that everyone should be using oil based cleansers so this is a great way to go if you just want to splash it off with water. I didn’t get that feeling of residue that you can if you don’t use a muslin cloth or some such like with some cleansers.

All in all, I’m glad I got it and I’d buy it again if I had to buy it full price as well.

NOTD - OPI Combo

I'm starting my new temp job today and the single coat of Barry M I put on Saturday was starting to look a little tired. I couldn't decide what to put on except that I wanted it to be fun, sophisticated and neutral all at once.

So I decided on alternate nails using Coney Island Cotton Candy and Fiji Weejee. Fiji is a little metallic without being tacky and Coney Island is a lovely creme texture.

Do you likey?

FOTD - plum and pink eyes

Mon dieu! That is not a good angle for my brows!!! But I hope you can see what I've done with my eyes here. My eyelids suffer from excema from time to time and this week has been one of them. So I'm trying to use just mineral shadows, etc.

I started by patting in a layer of ELF shadow in Sweet with a flat shadow brush then went into the crease and outer corner using a pencil brush with ELF Glamorous on it. I blended out the brow bone with a pale Laura Mercier mineral shadow that I forget the name of.

I used my Benefit Bad Gal liner on the upper lash line and lower waterline. After using this for a few weeks I can confirm it doesn't agree with me. It burns and makes my eyes water. Maybellinw Great Lash mascara does the same. Today I've got on Estee Lauder Projectionist mascara.

I've used the cheek colour and highlighter from Lauren Luke's Vintage Glamour palette, my Rimmel East End Snob lip liner and the Revlon Colourburst lipstick in Blush. I'll do a proper review of the lipstick soon.

I hope you like!
